1. INTRODUCTION

The meeting was opened by the Chairman, Prof . W.A. Wakeham, who welcomed all present and thanked Prof. Chr. Boned and Dr A. Baylaucq for the excellent arrangements as the local organisers of the meeting.
The meeting was divided into the usual scientific session and a business session. The proceedings are recorded here in that order. A list of attendees is at the end.

2.8. The Fractional Stokes-Einstein Equation: Its Utility for Liquids at High Pressure

2.9. Pressure-Viscosity Coefficients for Molecular and Ionic Liquids through a thermodynamic scaling.
A.S. Pensado, M.J. Comunas, (Spain), A.A.H. Padua (France), J. Fernandez (Spain)

Each presentation engendered discussion and a few points of special interest are noted here:
  1. Dr Galliero explained that although 1/3 of the natural gas produced incorporates H2S, which is highly dangerous, very few data exist for this component. Molecular dynamic calculations performed in their laboratory, deviated from experimental values up to 2% for density and 16% in the case of viscosity. Large deviations with the REFPROP software were observed. Work is still in progress

  2. Dr Vesovic presented an improved model for the viscosity of liquid mixtures, where liquids are considered as chains of rigid spheres. The model depends upon the radial distribution function and the excluded volumes of two colliding chains. The model seems to be a good improvement over previous attempts. Prof. Vogel demonstrated highly accurate zero density viscosity and thermal conductivity correlations for methane, and compared them with existing data.

  3. Prof Assael demonstrated the good operation of the transient hot-wire technique for solids, for the measurement of the thermal conductivity with an uncertainty of about 1%.

  4. In relation to ionic liquids:
    - Prof Nieto de Castro showed that although ionic liquids have become more widely used today, still very large discrepancies exist between the data, and presented the problems arising with the measurement of viscosity and thermal conductivity of ionic liquids.
    - Dr Froeba presented also problems associated with the prediction of the viscosity and binary difusion coefficient of ionic liquids
    - Prof Harris presented his recent work in high pressure viscosity and self diffusion coefficient in pure ionic liquids, and showed that above Tg, most molecular and ionic liquids showed fractional Stokes-Einstein behaviour

  5. Prof Tusler presented further very interesting modifications and refinements of the model of the vibrating wire viscometer.

  6. Finaly Prof Fernandez discussed interesting developments in the viscosity-pressure behaviour of lubricants, molecular and ionic liquids.
