The equipment cleaning produce liquid and solid waste. Thus, a mechanic cleaning system can be used in order to reduce the waste from the rinsings with water and solvents. In addition, the internal cleaning of pipings can be done with plastic pigs, whereas the use of spray nozzles decreases the consumption of liquid to about 80 - 90%.
The cleaning includes also the use fabrics. Rcycling the cleaning fabrics and using them again reduces the disposed waste.
Furthermore, countercurrent rinsing systems and alternative cleaning agents can be used in plants where Clean in Place (CIP) systems are used.
It should be noted that the planning of production of large batchs of the same colour plays an important role in waste minimisation. In addition, the production process should always start from the batchs that require open colours. Also, the mixing tanks should be cleaned immediately after their use, while wastewater can be used as component in the production of primers.
Moreover, another minimisation practices is the separation of the white wastewater from the coloured one and then mixing them for the production of a dye of similar colour. The white wastewater can be used in almost the production process of every colour.
